The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) suggests CBT for

CBT focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your feelings and actions. It recognises and addresses negative ideas that maintain the problems you encounter. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.
NICE suggests counselling for Depression.
Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine what issue regarding your childhood or adulthood you discuss. An aim of counselling is to help you to talk about a difficulty and find a way forward which is right for you.
