What to Expect

An initial assessment appointment enables you to discover if you are comfortable with me, discuss what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment session in Southville, Bristol or Clifton, Bristol.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts affect your emotions and behaviour. It identifies and addresses unhelpful thoughts which maintain the problems you experience. The aim of CBT is for you to have healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends CBT for depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what matter regarding your childhood and/or adult life you explore. An aim of counselling is to enable you to talk about a problem and discover a way forward that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR directs your eye motions to stimulate how your mind processes information. The procedure attempts to reprocess your frozen distressing memories. The objective of EMDR is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends eye movement desensitisation reprocessing for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the problems you face. It considers your ideas, emotions and significant events in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you change or discover appropriate ways of managing.
