Hello. I'm Tanya Nielson. I'm a senior accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their mental health. My interest involves abuse, depression and self esteem, as well as the particular issues faced by Black, gay and mixed ethnic background men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting enables you to see if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy could assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment meeting in Preston Park, Brighton or Brighton.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your emotions and actions. It identifies and addresses unhelpful thoughts that perpetuate the issues you experience. The aim of CBT is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You decide what matter regarding your early years and/or adult life you discuss. An aim of counselling is to enable you to talk about a difficulty and find a way forward which is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing directs your eye motions to affect how your brain processes data. The technique attempts to reprocess your frozen distressing recollections. The objective of EMDR is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends eye movement desensitisation reprocessing for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy combines therapeutic approaches to fit your needs and the issues you experience. It explores your personal experiences and options. The aim of integrative therapy is to help you advance your self-understanding.

Psychosynthesis Therapy

Psychosynthesis therapy views the obstacles you encounter as opportunities for you to grow. It fosters your comprehension of your different attributes. An aim of psychosynthesis therapy is to help you harmonise elements of yourself.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It considers your ideas, emotions and relevant events in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover suitable ways of coping.
