More Detail

Over 3 Years Post-Registration Experience

Hello. I'm Maureen Smith. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their psychological health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment appointment helps you to discover if you are comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in Wealdstone, Harrow.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your emotions and actions. It recognises and addresses negative thoughts which maintain the problems you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates CBT for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and self harm.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine which matter regarding your childhood and/or adulthood you discuss. An aim of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and discover a way forward which is appropriate for you.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It explores your ideas, feelings and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or find appropriate ways of coping.
