More Detail

12 Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I'm Louise Shuttleworth. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their mental wellbeing. I have private and public sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus involves Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and panic disorder, and the specific problems faced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment meeting allows you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in Hove or Preston Park, Brighton.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts affect your feelings and actions. It recognises and addresses negative ideas which perpetuate the issues you encounter. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine which issue regarding your early years or adulthood you discuss. The objective of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and discover a way forward that is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR guides your eye movements to affect how your brain processes data. The procedure attempts to reprocess your frozen distressing recollections. The aim of eye movement desensitisation reprocessing is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests eye movement desensitisation reprocessing for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy selects therapies to suit your needs and the problems you encounter. It explores your subjective experiences and choices. An aim of integrative therapy is to help you develop your self-awareness.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It considers your thoughts, emotions and significant moments in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or find appropriate methods of coping.
