More Detail

Over 20 Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I am Birgitta. I'm a registered psychotherapist and a chartered and registered counselling psychologist - I support individuals and couples with their emotional health. I hold private sector experience as a psychotherapist and a counselling psychologist. My interest includes abuse, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and sexual problems, as well as the particular issues faced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment session enables you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment meeting in Guildford.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and actions. It identifies and challenges negative thoughts which maintain the issues you experience. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests cognitive behavioural therapy for Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and self harm.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what issue concerning your early years and/or adult life you explore. The objective of counselling is to enable you to speak about a difficulty and find a way forward that is right for you.

Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic therapy focuses on appreciating you. It sees you as a whole human being and emphasises your personal growth. Humanistic therapy seeks to help you realise your freedom.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy selects therapies to suit your preferences and the issues you encounter. It explores your personal experiences and choices. The aim of integrative therapy is to help you advance your self-understanding.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It offers you psychological treatments and mental wellbeing support. An objective of psychological therapies is to help you alleviate symptoms.

Psychosexual Therapy

Psychosexual therapy focuses on treating the sexual difficulties you experience. When appropriate, you undertake treatment tasks privately in your home. Psychosexual therapy aims to help you alleviate sexual problems.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover suitable methods of managing.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

TA focuses on the modes you use to communicate with yourself and people. It explores the effect of your pre-conscious life strategy and how to improve it. TA aims to help you acknowledge your worth and ability to change.
