Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am an accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), working privately from two Central London Locations - Regent Street and Liverpool Street. With ten years of clinical experience I have worked with the majority of problems people can encounter in life. I specialise in relationship problems, as well as a broad range of psychological difficulties, including depression, anxiety and addiction issues, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement.
Over the last ten years, I have worked for several counselling centres throughout London, including Hammersmith and Fulham Mind, Wandsworth Bereavement Service, MPCC (a wpf network centre) and University of Greenwich Student Counselling Service. I also managed an alcohol counselling service for clients with varying levels of alcohol misuse and drug misuse and significant others (partners, siblings, friends) affected.
In addition to my private work, I continue to work for St. Mungo's where I offer counselling and psychotherapy to homeless clients and chronically excluded client groups. I also act as clinical supervisor to mental health professionals, and am currently involved in developing a research project aimed at improving psychological care to marginalised clients.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I work as an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, drawing on a range of therapeutic models with a particular emphasis on psychodynamic concepts and ideas. In my work with you, I aim to make you feel at ease so you can think and talk about your problems freely. I will invite you to express what is on your mind, thoughts, feelings, memories, dreams, and we will work together to understand what it is that is making you feel unhappy, stuck, or trapped in particular behaviours, symptoms or relationship patterns.
As the work unfolds, many clients begin to develop a different understanding of themselves, their problems and difficulties. However, Counselling and Psychotherapy is not a quick fix and it does not magically change you. What it does, it helps you understand yourself in a new way, and provides you with an opportunity to work through your problems and difficulties, so you can find a way forward. If you are open to it, it can be a real investment in yourself, and many clients find it liberating to confide in somebody like they can't in anybody else.
If you would like to find out more, or want to book an appointment, why not get in touch with me via the 'Contact Me' link and we can arrange an initial appointment (no obligation), and you can decide if you would like to go ahead.
