Clinical Experience in Counselling, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy

I originally trained as a Psychodynamic Counsellor in 1991 and later as a Spiritual Director. Eventually I went on to train as a Jungian Psychotherapist with GAPS, The Guild of Analytical Psychology and Spirituality. As my practice developed over the years I became increasingly interested in childhood trauma and the myriad of ways in which this can manifest itself in later life, often as a bewildering array of apparently unrelated symptoms. Inevitably, this required me to take the body's expression of emotional pain into account and led me to train as a Biodynamic Massage Therapist. I now practise all of these disciplines and work with clients who seek my help to decide which approach is best suited to their needs.

What to Expect during Counselling, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy

I work in private practice offering Jungian psychotherapy and analysis to individuals. This is a form of deep reflection aimed at bringing to consciousness dynamics which are affecting people's waking life, but of which they have so far been unaware. It is especially helpful in situations where symptoms are bewildering or overwhelming. Sometimes people may be trying to make sense of a situation for which there appears to be no obvious reason - such as a failure to conceive. In such cases a Jungian approach can often release the energy needed to change the situation.

I work extensively with people who have suffered trauma very early in life, as well as with the children and grandchildren of trauma victims. Jungian psychotherapy and analysis recognises our innate desire to become well rather than focusing on the causes of the problems we experience. Although strictly speaking it is a "talking therapy", it is, for most people, a journey of profound healing for body, mind and spirit. However, it would be wrong to assume that analysis is always problem centred. For many people it is a means of deepening their awareness of their inner life in order to live more fully.

I am also a Biodynamic Massage practitioner, and some people who come seeking psychotherapy find that a body-oriented approach to healing is more suitable for them. Biodynamic Massage techniques are designed to work on the mind and the body to promote balance and healing. It is especially useful for people who are suffering from such complaints as stress, headaches, depression, back pain or digestive problems. It can also help in cases of ADHD. I am a trained counsellor accredited with the Association of Christian Counsellors and regularly offer short term counselling as well as longer term psychotherapy and analysis.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy

I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, a qualification in Spiritual Direction, a Diploma in Analytical Psychology from the Guild of Analytical Psychology and Spirituality (GAPS) and a Diploma in Biodynamic Massage from the Cambridge Centre for Body Psychotherapy. I am Accredited by the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) and registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a member of the Association of Holistic and Biodynamic Massage Therapists (AHBMT).

Additional Information

I believe that there are many ways of releasing the energy we need to live life fully, and I always work with people to integrate the body and the mind.
