Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I have completed my Masters and Diploma training at the highly regarded, Metanoia Institute. The Metanoia Institute is one of the leading providers of psychotherapy and counselling training in the UK. I have run my private practice in North West London for over 10 years. I have worked with a wide range of issues including: relationship issues, anger management, addictions, personality disorders, debt, couples counselling, bereavement, stress, work issues, anxiety, depression, sexual issues, identity and belonging, eating disorders, emotional, physical and sexual abuse. I have worked with clients over varying time spans from 4 sessions (primarily Employee Assistance Program clients) to several years with private practice clients. I have worked for one of the country's leading well-being providers, First Assist, since 2003. I have also been selected to work for other EAPs including ComPsych (the worlds largest EAP provider). I am also working as a consultant for Counterpoise Limited. I provide psychotherapy for patients referred by the NHS with drug and alcohol problems, substance misuse issues and personality disorders. I have experience of working with Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT), Social Workers, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Psychiatrists and Probation Officers. I work as a sessional group psychotherapist on the Addictions Unit at the Capio Nightingale Hospital in Marylebone. I also work on a one to one basis with inpatients and outpatients. This is one of the leading private hospitals providing excellent psychiatric care in London. I am also employed by an OFSTED Outstanding secondary school in Greater London. I work with adolescents as a consultant psychotherapist.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

I arrange an initial assessment session with you where you can share the issues that are causing you concern or distress. I will ask questions in order to understand what it is you are wanting from counselling or psychotherapy. In this initial session you will get a feel for the way that I work. This first meeting will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions, to make a more informed decision as to whether you want to proceed and most importantly, whether you feel comfortable to continue working with me. I am also able to assess whether or not counselling or psychotherapy is appropriate for you. Following an assessment, if you decide that you do not want to continue with me, I am more than happy to refer you back to RSCPP to find another counsellor or psychotherapist or to another therapy organisation if needed.

My way of working is adapted to the individual needs of the client and is drawn from my Transactional Analysis (TA) and Humanistic background and experience. A fundamental concept within TA is 'contracting'. If you choose to work with me we will 'contract' to work with each other for six sessions. This will enable us to focus on what it is you want to explore and change in your life. Some clients find that six sessions is sufficient, others discover that longer term therapy is needed so that they can explore issues further. If this is the case for you, we can renegotiate your 'contract' to fit in with your longer term psychotherapeutic goals and needs.

I can offer you a safe and confidential setting where my aim is to create an environment where you will feel heard and be able to discuss, understand and explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviours.

One of the aims of psychotherapy is to enhance your self awareness helping you to recognise repetitive patterns of behaviour. Psychotherapy can help you understand how you relate to other people and situations and assists you in accepting aspects of yourself.

It can be difficult to talk to friends and family and some people find they have no one to confide in or talk to. Counselling offers shorter term work, focusing on problems experienced in the here and now. Psychotherapy deals with longer term issues and looks at patterns of behaviour which may be having a negative impact on your life.

Counselling and psychotherapy offer people a safe place to talk about personal problems such as emotional difficulties, relationship problems, or other worries to do with their inner sense of well being such as stress and depression.

If you are interested in seeing if psychotherapy or counselling is what you require, I invite you to make contact to book an assessment session. At this session we will have a chance to meet and find out about each other. At the end of this session we can agree if, and how we will work together.
