Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

My private counselling practice has been in existence for a decade. My clinical experience includes working with people suffering from a variety of issues associated with trauma, displaying depression, anxiety and feelings of helplessness. I have supported people from the effects of loss i.e., separation, ill health and grief. Those that have suffered childhood abuse are often seeking therapy to find closure. A decade of private counselling practice has given me the experience and opportunity to assist many people, adults and children, to access a service that is both professional and ethical. I also work part time as the Counselling Co-ordinator at a large youth counselling organisation. I am responsible for providing counselling services for a number of establishments managing both volunteers and qualified counsellors. I have been involved with training workshops and organising conferences for those interested in topics such as domestic violence, anger management and working creatively within therapy I was a Youth worker and a residential social worker prior to training as a counsellor. I have also worked with offenders and people who were suffering the affects of long term mental health.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

The first meeting is an opportunity to share information in terms of what I can offer and what you are hoping to achieve by attending. I can offer short term counselling or open ended counselling that is regularly evaluated by the two of us i.e., client and counsellor.

Working from a person centred perspective I believe in the quality of therapeutic relationship to help a person gain clarity and insight into their problems. My counselling approach offers a safe, empathic environment to explore personal issues without feeling judged.

My training in counselling also reflects the importance of past relationships and experiences, those that do suffer from low self esteem can be seen as a product of past events. Counselling can challenge a person's idea about who they are and allow individuals to discover their true selves.

Counselling sessions will be a chance to explore, clarify and gain insight into personal problems, in order for you to challenge or come to terms with factors that are making you unhappy with your life.
