After an initial assessment in Brockham, Betchworth, there is no obligation to proceed if you decide not to. You and I may use the safe space to clarify the current or unresolved past concerns for which you seek Counselling or Psychotherapy. I will address any questions you may have. You can see how you feel working with me. You and I will then be able to assess if my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is right for you.The aim of my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is to attend to what brings you to therapy in a confidential and focused environment and develop your knowledge of causes of concerns so you discover what to change or accept. To get the most from Counselling and Psychotherapy you will need to be able to speak openly with me and reflect.
As a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I am highly trained and experienced in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Couple Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Humanistic and Integrative Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Psychodynamic Therapy and Transpersonal Therapy to assist people to live more fully.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
This is a collaborative approach involving homework to help you become aware of the thoughts behind your feelings and behaviours and to find alternative thinking styles. Unhelpful beliefs are located and gently challenged and then dismantled. Generally 6 to 18 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Couple Therapy
I look at how unhelpful unconscious patterns of behaviour and difficult feelings are activated in the here-and-now relationship. I link these to unresolved childhood issues experienced within the early family unit. Understanding and empathy for the other is then increased and communicated. Generally 6 to 100 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
A cutting edge treatment mostly which links the emotional centre of the brain with the rational thinking part, in order to make sense of difficult events and reduce uncontainable physical and emotional reactions. Generally 6 to 18 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Humanistic and Integrative Therapy
A meld of therapeutic approaches used in the pursuit of wholeness and growth. Generally 6 to 200 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
This encourages the development of daily meditation practice, taking a specific amount of time to focus on internal experience such as the breath, whilst noticing experiencing and then letting go of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This allows for a distancing effect. Generally 6 to 18 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
This approach provides tools and techniques for changing the way thoughts, feelings and behaviour patterns are mentally stored, with the aim of reducing the ill effect they have on daily experiences. Generally 6 to 12 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Psychodynamic Therapy
This approach aims to examine childhood influences on current here-and-now feelings and behaviour. The roots to present suffering are deemed to originate from the meaning given to early experiences and the subsequent views which come about as a result and which operate even now unknowingly. Generally 6 to 200 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Transpersonal Therapy
This allows an examination of influences beyond the personal, which may originate from one's higher self or even from an energy field beyond the reach of the five senses. Image work and visualisation is often a way into this unknown layer of experience. Generally 6 to 200 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
