Clinical Experience in Psychotherapy

Hello. My name is Sheila Lauchlan. I am a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist - Family and Relationship Psychotherapist. I work with people to help them make sense of the thoughts and emotions they experience. My private Psychotherapy practice is based in Cobham.

I work with Individuals, Couples and Families. I am highly experienced in providing Psychotherapy to men and people from different backgrounds and cultures, and assisting with the particular challenges they encounter.

As well as being a Psychotherapist in private practice in Cobham, I have experience as a Charity, College, Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Psychotherapist.

What to Expect during Psychotherapy

After an initial consultation in Cobham, there is no obligation to continue if you decide not to. We can take the opportunity to explore the particular dilemmas for which you are considering Psychotherapy. I will discuss confidentiality with you and address any questions you may have. You can see how you feel working with me. You and I will then be able to decide if my Psychotherapy practice is appropriate for you.

The aim of my Psychotherapy practice is to tailor therapy to you and your needs. To get the most from Psychotherapy you will need to be able to work collaboratively.

As a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist - Family and Relationship Psychotherapist, I am trained and experienced in using Brief Therapy, Constructivist Therapy, Couple Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Family and Couple Therapy, Family and Marital Therapy, Family and Relationship Therapy, Family and Systemic Therapy, Family and Systems Therapy, Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Relational Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and Systemic Therapy to work with people to improve their wellbeing.

Brief Therapy

Brief Therapy works in a focused way to highlight your existing strategies and resources, so that they can be developed and used with the dilemma that you are bringing. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Constructivist Therapy

Constructivist Therapy takes the view that people are influenced by several significant conversations that they have experienced throughout their lives. If these conversations have had a negative impact, then these ideas and thoughts can be challenged to create a new way of viewing the world. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Couple Therapy

Couples often develop communication patterns which have a negative impact on the relationship. Couple Therapy works towards developing new patterns which are more enriching for the relationship. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) uses tapping techniques to unblock emotions which are having a negative effect. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) uses rapid eye movement to process unresolved traumas. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Family and Couple Therapy

Couples and families often develop communication patterns which have a negative impact on the relationships. Family and Couple Therapy works towards developing new patterns, which are more enriching for the relationships. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Family and Systemic Therapy

Family and Systemic Therapy explores communication patterns and how these patterns affect relationships, and personal identities. By identifying these patterns it is possible to develop new patterns which allow a more harmonious way of being. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy explores the communication patterns that occur in families, and the roles that people adopt. By identifying these aspects it is possible to develop new ways of communicating and being. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Narrative Therapy

It is not possible to change life experiences, but it is possible to view experiences from different perspectives, to tease out new meanings. From these new positions, it is possible to re story experiences in a way that allows a more fulfilling life. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Relational Therapy

This therapy explores relationships, and how negative communication patterns can be repeated time and time again with different relationships. Once these patterns are identified and an explanation of how they are created, it is possible to develop new and more harmonious patterns. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

This therapy focuses on particular dilemmas and highlights existing effective strategies and resources, that have become overwhelmed in the crisis. By emphasising these strategies and resources it is possible to reconnect you to your normal coping mechanisms, and relate them to the current situation. Generally 5 to 30 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
