Clinical Experience in Counselling

I am a qualified counsellor based in the East Hertfordshire area, with counselling rooms in Hoddesdon. I have had six years' experience counselling people for all sorts of emotional and psychological problems, ranging from bereavement to relationship break-down to a loss of direction in life, including those with issues around drug and alcohol abuse. Although I mostly work with adults, I also have experience working with children of primary school age.

What to Expect during Counselling

I work using the person-centred approach to counselling. As a person-centred therapist, I believe you have the ability to find your own path through your situation or problem, to an answer that's right for you, without telling you what to do or how you should think or feel.

I prefer to work this way because I believe it helps to dispel those unhelpful, negative and incorrect beliefs you might have about yourself. I believe the person-centred approach empowers you to discover and explore your own strengths, strengths that you can draw on for the rest of your life - strengths that are an inherent part of who you are - and then work towards using those new-found abilities for personal growth and achievement in your life.

I feel it would be my privilege to be with you on your journey; a listening helper who acts as a sounding board, being neither judgemental nor giving advice, but helping you to explore your situation fully, so you can arrive at your own solution in your own way, and in your own time.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling

  • UK Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP) Registered Independent (UKRCP Reg Ind) Counsellor since 2011
  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor since 2007
  • BACP Accredited Post Graduate Diploma Humanistic Person Centred Counselling - University of Hertfordshire (UK) 2007

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Conditions of Registration of the UK Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP).

Additional Information

I am also a qualified midwife, and so understand very well about the stresses of pregnancy, childbirth and the impact of a new addition to the family as a whole. I also understand very well about the loss of a pregnancy or of a baby.

Further to my counselling qualifications, I am also a trained hypnotherapist. I can either provide a hypnotherapy separate to counselling, or I can use hypnotherapy (when appropriate and after full discussion with my client) alongside counselling.
