Clinical Experience in Counselling

I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Counsellor. I have over fifteen years counselling experience. I offer a safe, accepting, confidential space for you to bring whatever you need to speak about. My counselling experience is expansive. It includes working with people who might bring issues such as a bereavement, relationship issues, work and personal stresses; a wish for personal change and growth, a change in health, a life transition, depression and anxiety, phobias, addictions, and much more. I have eight years experience working for an employee support association offering appropriate support and crisis intervention to people who present with multiple issues and varying degrees of distress. Additionally, I currently offer my counselling services to a well known mental health charity. Here I see clients face to face for short term and long term counselling. Clients may be referred by their GP or psychiatrist or self refer. I also have eleven years experience working as a smoking cessation counsellor and debrief facilitator so understand and am skilled in supporting people who are wanting to change addictive and unhelpful behaviours. Other counselling I have offered on a voluntary basis has been for a major bereavement charity; a year within a university as a student counsellor; one and a half years as a counsellor within two London Hospitals, working with people referred by their GP or psychiatrist; and within the voluntary sector. Counselling offered has been both short term and open ended.

What to Expect during Counselling

The quality of the relationship you and your counsellor create together( known as the therapeutic alliance) plays an important part in any change. Our first meeting together gives you a sense of how you would feel working with me.

This initial consultation allows us to meet face to face and talk about your counselling needs. Counselling is a collaborative process. If we decide to begin counselling together we can agree a regular appointment time. Counselling sessions take place on a weekly basis. They may be for a fixed number of sessions or on a more open ended basis over a longer period of time.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling

  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor since August 2009 (Registered since August 2009)
  • Diploma Principals and Practice of Psychodynamic Counselling - Croydon College (UK) 1997

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
