5+ Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Hello. I'm Wendy Savage. I'm an accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I assist individuals and couples with their emotional health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My interest involves depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and panic disorder, as well as the specific challenges faced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment meeting enables you to see if you are comfortable with me, discuss what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and assess if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an introductory assessment appointment in Exeter.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and behaviour. It recognises and challenges negative thoughts that perpetuate the problems you experience. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, bipolar disorder, bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia and self harm.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine which matter regarding your early years and/or adult life you explore. The objective of counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and find a solution that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing directs your eye movements to affect how your brain processes data. The technique endeavours to reprocess your frozen traumatic recollections. The objective of EMDR is to desensitise your painful memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant moments in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover appropriate methods of managing.
