7 Months Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I am Sylvia. I'm a registered counsellor - I help individuals with their emotional wellbeing. I have private and voluntary sector experience as a counsellor. My interest includes depression, panic disorder and relationship problems, as well as the specific difficulties experienced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment appointment enables you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts affect your emotions and behaviour. It recognises and addresses negative ideas which maintain the issues you encounter. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends cognitive behavioural therapy for depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide what matter regarding your early years and/or adulthood you explore. The objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a problem and find a way forward which is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious causes of the problems you encounter. It facilitates you in being aware of aspects of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to increase your self-comprehension to give you choices.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic therapy for depression and social anxiety disorder.
