8+ Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Hello. I am Susan Chambers-Downie. I'm an accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their psychological health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus includes depression, relationship problems and stress, as well as the particular difficulties faced by men and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment appointment helps you to see if you feel comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment session in Glasgow.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts affect your feelings and actions. It recognises and challenges unhelpful thoughts which perpetuate the issues you experience. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what issue concerning your early years and/or adulthood you explore. The aim of counselling is to enable you to talk about a difficulty and find a solution that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the problems you confront. It considers your thoughts, emotions and relevant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or find appropriate ways of coping.
