10+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I'm Simon. I'm a senior accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their psychological wellbeing. I hold private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My interest includes Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), as well as the particular difficulties encountered by women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting allows you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment session in Newport.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

(1 Review)
CBT concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and actions. It identifies and addresses unhelpful ideas which maintain the issues you encounter. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates CBT for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia and self harm.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what issue regarding your childhood or adulthood you discuss. An aim of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and discover a way forward which is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your thoughts, emotions and relevant events in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover suitable ways of coping.

"Simon is professional in his approach, providing a foundation upon which to work in the first instance, this ensured an element of trust in confidentiality. When working outside, Simon was excellent in providing encouragement and bolstering confidence to achieve the desired goal. I have found his approach excellent in providing a safe and confidential environment in which to discuss my anxiety and reasons behind it. I would recommend Simon to a friend or family member without hesitation."
