More Detail

11+ Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Hello. I am Phil Mitchell. I'm an accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals with their emotional wellbeing. I hold private and voluntary sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus includes abuse, relationship problems and stress, and the specific difficulties experienced by gay men.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment appointment allows you to see if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and determine if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an introductory assessment meeting in Pudsey or Leeds.

Client Centred Therapy

Client centred therapy concentrates on appreciating and accepting you. It encourages your openness about the concerns you experience. Client centred therapy seeks to help you discover your own solutions.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts affect your emotions and behaviour. It identifies and challenges unhelpful ideas that maintain the issues you encounter. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and self harm.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide what issue regarding your early years and/or adulthood you explore. An objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a problem and discover a solution which is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the problems you confront. It explores your thoughts, emotions and relevant events in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or discover suitable ways of coping.
