More Detail

4+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I am Nigel. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I assist individuals with their psychological health. I have private, public and voluntary sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My interest includes Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as the specific issues experienced by men and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment meeting enables you to discover if you are comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to book a preliminary assessment meeting in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts influence your feelings and behaviour. It identifies and addresses unhelpful ideas that maintain the problems you encounter. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which issue regarding your childhood and/or adult life you explore. An objective of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and discover a solution which is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing guides your eye motions to affect how your mind processes data. The procedure attempts to reprocess your frozen traumatic memories. The objective of eye movement desensitisation reprocessing is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends eye movement desensitisation reprocessing for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It considers your thoughts, emotions and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or discover suitable ways of managing.
