9+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I am Nicola Butcher. I'm a registered senior accredited counsellor - I help individuals and couples with their psychological health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor. My focus involves self harm, social anxiety disorder and stress, and the specific issues encountered by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting allows you to see if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and assess if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment session in South Benfleet, Benfleet.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts influence your emotions and behaviour. It recognises and challenges negative thoughts that maintain the problems you experience. The objective of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests cognitive behavioural therapy for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine which issue regarding your childhood or adulthood you explore. An objective of counselling is to enable you to speak about a problem and discover a way forward which is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

TA focuses on the roles you use to communicate with yourself and others. It explores the impact of your pre-conscious life strategy and how to enhance it. Transactional analysis seeks to help you recognise your worth and capacity to change.
