4+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hello. I am Melanie Ayers. I'm an accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I assist individuals and couples with their psychological wellbeing. I hold private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus includes Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and social anxiety disorder, as well as the specific issues encountered by bisexual, Black and gay men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment meeting allows you to see if you are comfortable with me, discuss what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment session in Banbury.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts affect your emotions and behaviour. It recognises and addresses negative ideas that maintain the problems you experience. The objective of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine what matter regarding your childhood and/or adult life you explore. The aim of counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and discover a solution that is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It explores your thoughts, feelings and significant events in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you change or discover appropriate methods of managing.
