What to Expect

A preliminary assessment appointment enables you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in West Bridgford, Nottingham, Southwell or Mansfield.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts influence your emotions and behaviour. It recognises and challenges unhelpful ideas that perpetuate the problems you encounter. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You decide what matter concerning your childhood or adult life you discuss. The aim of counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and discover a way forward that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious causes of the issues you encounter. It facilitates you in becoming aware of aspects of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy aims to enhance your self-understanding to give you choices.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests psychodynamic therapy for depression, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It offers you psychological treatments and mental health support. The objective of psychological therapy is to help you ease symptoms.

Systemic Therapy

Systemic therapy focuses on the system of interactions between you and others. It addresses the interactions which maintain the interpersonal problems you encounter. Systemic therapy intends to help you enhance how you communicate with people.
