What to Expect

An initial assessment appointment helps you to see if you feel comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and determine if therapy may help you. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your emotions and actions. It identifies and addresses negative ideas which perpetuate the issues you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide what matter regarding your early years or adult life you discuss. An objective of counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and find a solution which is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychology is interested in you and your mind, emotions and actions. It offers you psychological treatments and mental health support. An objective of psychological therapies is to help you ease symptoms.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you face. It considers your ideas, feelings and significant events in your life. Psychotherapy intends to help you change or discover suitable ways of managing.
