4+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I'm Jennie Osborne. I'm a registered counsellor - I support individuals with their emotional wellbeing. I have private and voluntary sector experience as a counsellor. My interest includes anger, self esteem and stress, as well as the particular difficulties experienced by men and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment appointment enables you to discover if you are comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an initial assessment meeting in Newton Abbot.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You decide what matter concerning your early years or adult life you discuss. An objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a problem and find a solution which is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Thoughts on Mental Health

Some OCD behaviours develop when children, unable to control distressing events in their lives such as parental violence or divorce, will respond by finding something in their lives they can control, e.g. tidiness around the home, cleanliness, arranging their own possessions in a particular way. This gives a degree of comfort and so becomes entrenched as a coping strategy, often becoming exaggerated over time, to the extent that they may have to spend hours every day cleaning the house, or become distressed if someone moves an object. As adults, this can affect their ability to get to work or appointments on time and to maintain relationships.
