"I found Ian a very calm and attentive therapist who let me explain my problems without being judgemental. He greatly helped me to overcome the issues affecting me and even got me to reflect on the possible perspectives, views and reasons of the other individuals, so much so, that I am now slowly rebuilding that relationship. Sometimes problems can escalate out of control and we don't individually always have the answers and Ian has certainly helped me to re-focus and put things into perspective."

Thoughts on Mental Health

This is a wonderful book about one of the most important subjects. It is accessible and clear, and communicates how very important our earliest relationships can be in shaping our experience in life. I also found it redemptive in its suggestion that love and attention can be healing when received in later life.

In our sessions I worked for a long time with Helen on simply building connection and being dependable and trustworthy. We actually had our first few sessions by Skype, which was a way of building trust. Helen was wary because she'd had difficult and painful experiences with previous therapists, so we took time connecting online until she felt ready to meet face-to-face. Helen arrived at our sessions in crisis about her impending wedding and her feelings about having to confront her family around the wedding. She needed support to get through these experiences. She was also drinking at the time and wanting to work with that - which she did very quickly.

"Ian is an absolute pleasure to speak to. So professional, calming and someone who can be opened up to immediately. He offers support and allows discussion that can help with problems. Ian allows you to lead the conversation without interruption and then offers some clarity. He responds quickly to emails and has always been very accommodating to me when it comes to appointment changes that I have had to make. Ian is the first therapist that I have stuck with in three years. He is very intelligent, good natured and attentive...remembering things that have been discussed sessions ago. I would openly recommend Ian to anyone seeking therapy and would always continue with him if needed in the future."

"Ian was always attentive, a great listener with a lot of empathy and a person I found easy to communicate with. His ability to make me feel comfortable in therapy for the first time in my life (and I tried a lot before) made a life-changing difference to my progress. I do not believe I could have ever arrived at the safe place I am in now if it was not for Ian's continuous, patient support in therapy. I disclosed details of my life that I have never told anyone before to Ian and that, to me, is a sign that he made it easy for me to trust him. Highly recommend."
