More Detail

6+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I am Virginia. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their emotional health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus involves depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), as well as the particular problems experienced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment appointment allows you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an introductory assessment meeting in Chesham.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts influence your emotions and actions. It identifies and addresses unhelpful thoughts that maintain the problems you encounter. The aim of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what issue regarding your childhood or adulthood you explore. An objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a difficulty and discover a solution that is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the problems you face. It considers your thoughts, feelings and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or find suitable methods of managing.
