What to Expect

An introductory assessment session allows you to see if you feel comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and assess if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in Hove or Worthing.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your feelings and actions. It recognises and challenges unhelpful ideas which perpetuate the problems you experience. The aim of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and self harm.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide what issue regarding your childhood and/or adulthood you discuss. An aim of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and discover a way forward which is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy centres on the unconscious meaning of the problems you encounter. It facilitates you in being conscious of parts of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to enhance your self-understanding to give you options.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic therapy for depression and self harm.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, emotions and actions. It offers you psychological interventions and mental wellbeing support. The objective of psychological therapies is to help you ease symptoms.
