More Detail

3+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hello. I'm Simon Rowbottom. I'm a registered and chartered counselling psychologist - I help individuals with their psychological wellbeing. I hold private and public sector experience as a counselling psychologist. My focus includes depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and social anxiety disorder, as well as the specific problems experienced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment meeting allows you to discover if you are comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to book a preliminary assessment appointment in Chinnor.

Client Centred Therapy

Client centred therapy focuses on appreciating and accepting you. It encourages your openness about the concerns you experience. Client centred therapy seeks to help you discover your own solutions.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and actions. It identifies and addresses unhelpful thoughts which perpetuate the problems you encounter. The aim of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests cognitive behavioural therapy for bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide what issue regarding your childhood and/or adult life you discuss. An aim of counselling is to enable you to talk about a difficulty and find a solution that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Existential Therapy

Existential therapy explores how you perceive your existence. It involves deliberation on your perspectives, potential and options. Existential therapy aims to help you find significance in your existence and the issues you experience.

Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic therapy centres on appreciating you. It sees you as a whole human being and prioritises your personal growth. Humanistic therapy seeks to help you recognise your autonomy.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious meaning of the issues you encounter. It facilitates you in being conscious of parts of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to enhance your self-comprehension to give you choices.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests psychodynamic therapy for depression, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, emotions and actions. It offers you psychological treatments and mental health support. An objective of psychological therapies is to help you alleviate symptoms.
