11+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I'm Celia N Simpson. I'm a registered psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their mental wellbeing. I have private and voluntary sector experience as a psychotherapist. My interest includes depression, self esteem and stress, as well as the particular challenges faced by mixed ethnic background women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment appointment allows you to see if you are comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment session in Sefton Park, Liverpool.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It explores your thoughts, feelings and significant moments in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or find appropriate ways of coping.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

Transactional analysis focuses on the roles you use to communicate with yourself and people. It considers the effect of your pre-conscious life strategy and how to enhance it. Transactional analysis aims to help you recognise your worth and capacity to change.

Thoughts on Mental Health

Very often I find myself recommending 'Counselling for Toads' to clients as a great introduction to the way I work with transactional analysis. It is a very clever and readable book - I wish I had written it myself! It is based on the characters of Kenneth Graham's 'Wind in the Willows'. The basic story is that Toad of Toad Hall gets depressed, and his friends Badger, Ratty and Mole, notice. He's not going out anymore, staying alone in Toad Hall with the curtains drawn, and he's starting to drink. His friends want to help him and finally Badger declares that there's only one thing for it - he has to have counselling! So together they march him off to see Heron. The story is of very effective short-term work; toad's thinking is engaged, as well as contacting his feelings and history. He responds well to the sessions with Heron, learning all sorts of things about himself and about how basic transactional analysis theory can help him make changes in his life.

Easy to talk toHelpfulnessValue for Money

"After having countless introductory sessions with other therapists, Celia was the first who appeared as though she was comfortable with the spectrum of emotions that can come within the therapy process and the first that treated me as though I was a person with an illness rather than just an embodiment of the illness itself. She is warm and understanding and I found her easy to talk to about what was troubling me - not an easy feat! Her teaching of Transactional Analysis has proved incredibly helpful in allowing me to take control of situations where I would otherwise feel too anxious or put down to get my point across, and her generosity in providing extra literature (self help books, breathing exercises, etc) has proved invaluable to my improvement. Her style enables you to assess your actions as well as your thoughts, helping to break out of certain relationship cycles etc, allowing you to be active in your own therapy. I would thoroughly recommend Celia to somebody struggling with depression and anxiety."
