21+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I am Birgitta. I'm a registered psychotherapist and a chartered and registered counselling psychologist - I support individuals with their emotional health. I hold private sector experience as a psychotherapist and a counselling psychologist. My interest includes abuse, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and sexual problems, as well as the particular issues faced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment session enables you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment meeting in Guildford or Southsea.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your feelings and behaviour. It recognises and challenges negative thoughts which perpetuate the problems you experience. The objective of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests cognitive behavioural therapy for Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and self harm.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what issue concerning your early years and/or adult life you explore. The objective of counselling is to enable you to speak about a difficulty and find a way forward that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing directs your eye movements to affect how your brain processes data. The procedure endeavours to reprocess your frozen distressing memories. The objective of eye movement desensitisation reprocessing is to desensitise your painful memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It offers you psychological treatments and mental wellbeing support. An objective of psychological therapies is to help you alleviate symptoms.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover suitable methods of managing.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

TA focuses on the modes you use to communicate with yourself and people. It explores the effect of your pre-conscious life strategy and how to improve it. TA aims to help you acknowledge your worth and ability to change.
