Thoughts on Mental Health

The relationship between a client and their therapist takes time to establish, and it is vitally important to develop trust if you are to feel safe enough to tell your story. You don't have to tell your story all in one go. It may be that you will need a number of sessions before you are ready to tackle some of your concerns. If there are questions you want to know the answers to, ask them. Your therapist may probe a little to find out why this is important to you, but, for me, I will always attempt to give a truthful answer.

You may be experiencing bodily symptoms which, after checking with your GP, appear not to have a medical cause, such as a painful head, neck, shoulders, joints, the feeling of struggling to breathe, constant tiredness. These symptoms are often caused by the physical tension created in the body when you are experiencing a high level of stress.†By working with a therapist, you may be able to identify the particular stressors in your life that are causing your physical symptoms, and explore ways to reduce their impact on you, which can lead to a reduction in symptoms and an increased sense of wellbeing.

Keeping yourself hydrated can help combat anxiety. If possible, give yourself some quiet time before the session, perhaps the evening before, to think about what you want to achieve. Some people choose to find the consulting room premises in advance so there are no worries about getting lost on the day itself. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive, and take some slow, deep breaths to calm yourself.

Easy to talk toHelpfulnessValue for Money

"From the outset, Diane made me feel completely at ease and immediately I felt I could be totally open and honest with her. She is calm and has a warm nature which made it impossible for me to not give my all to every session with her. She used a variety of techniques with me to help me relax and I always left her sessions feeling far better than when I entered them. She genuinely cares about her clients and follows up on discussions from previous sessions. She uses humour at appropriate moments to shift the perspective of her clients. She is engaged with how her clients are feeling in each moment and uses this to adapt the focus of sessions dependant on requirements. She has created a comfortable, inviting space with appropriate lighting that further helps you feel at ease in her sessions. Diane has made a real impact on my life and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Due to certain circumstances my sessions with Diane are currently paused but I am looking forwards to continuing my work with her in the very near future."

Easy to talk toHelpfulnessValue for Money

"Diane developed a rapport very quickly and we just talked about my issues. Conversation with Diane didn't feel like therapy but now I am more confident and relaxed most of the time. I believe my relationship is better than it has ever been. I am now venturing into a new career that I have wanted to try for a long time but did not think was possible for me."
