More Detail

5+ Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Hi. I'm Dee Howe. I'm an accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals with their psychological wellbeing. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus includes Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), relationship problems and stress, and the specific obstacles encountered by gay and mixed ethnic background men and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment session enables you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to book a preliminary assessment meeting in Exeter or Ide, Exeter.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and actions. It recognises and addresses unhelpful ideas which maintain the problems you experience. The objective of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends CBT for Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine which issue concerning your early years or adult life you explore. An aim of counselling is to enable you to speak about a problem and discover a solution that is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant events in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover appropriate methods of coping.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

TA focuses on the roles you use to interact with yourself and people. It considers the impact of your pre-conscious life strategy and how to improve it. TA seeks to help you acknowledge your worth and capacity to grow.
