More Detail

3+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I am Deborah Kellaway. I'm a registered counsellor - I assist individuals and couples with their emotional wellbeing. I have private and voluntary sector experience as a counsellor. My interest includes depression, self esteem and social anxiety disorder, and the particular challenges encountered by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment session enables you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy may benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment session in Christchurch.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your emotions and actions. It recognises and addresses unhelpful thoughts which perpetuate the issues you encounter. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for alcohol dependence, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You decide which matter regarding your childhood and/or adult life you discuss. An objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a difficulty and find a way forward that is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.
