Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your emotions and actions. It recognises and challenges unhelpful ideas which perpetuate the issues you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for alcohol dependence, bipolar disorder, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine which matter concerning your childhood and/or adult life you explore. An aim of counselling is to help you to talk about a difficulty and find a solution which is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious meaning of the problems you encounter. It facilitates you in becoming conscious of parts of your inner dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to enhance your self-comprehension to give you choices.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates psychodynamic therapy for depression, self harm and social anxiety disorder.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover appropriate methods of coping.
