More Detail

14+ Years Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I am Carolyn Bridgen. I'm a registered art therapist and a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I assist individuals with their emotional wellbeing. I have private sector experience as an art therapist and a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus includes self esteem, and the specific challenges experienced by women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment appointment helps you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in Epsom.

Art Therapy

Art therapy helps you express yourself through art media. You do not require art experience. An objective of art therapy is to help you creatively examine whatever concerns you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests art therapy for schizophrenia.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which issue regarding your early years and/or adult life you discuss. The objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a difficulty and discover a way forward that is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your ideas, feelings and relevant events in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or discover suitable methods of managing.

Thoughts on Mental Health

Each person who suffers from psychotic episodes is different. Serious psychotic symptoms can be triggered by a stressful event, or street drugs such as cannabis can alter the chemical balance of the brain if you had an existing predisposition. Stressful life events might include, bereavement, a serious accident, the loss of a job, ongoing relationship losses or problems, the birth of a child, and the sometimes catastrophic events of life that can work together to cause terrible emotional pain and confusion. Your mind may have difficulty processing the turn of events and so, with the use of symbolism and metaphor, you may seem to make word associations that most people would find difficult to understand. Additionally, your thinking can become distorted and intractable so that other people cannot make much sense of the flow of thoughts that you are encountering.
