Welcome. I am Natalia Zhigalina. I'm a registered psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their psychological health. I have private and public sector experience as a psychotherapist. My focus includes depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and relationship problems, as well as the specific difficulties faced by men and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment session helps you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which matter concerning your childhood or adulthood you explore. The aim of counselling is to help you to speak about a difficulty and discover a solution which is right for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Existential Therapy

Existential therapy investigates how you perceive your life. It involves reflection on your viewpoints, capacities and choices. Existential therapy aims to help you discover significance in your existence and the problems you encounter.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR guides your eye movements to affect how your brain processes data. The technique attempts to reprocess your locked traumatic memories. The aim of EMDR is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests eye movement desensitisation reprocessing for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy combines therapies to fit your preferences and the problems you experience. It considers your subjective experience and options. An aim of integrative therapy is to help you develop your self-awareness.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your thoughts, feelings and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or discover suitable methods of coping.

Thoughts on Mental Health

If you can manage it, have a food plan. Eat balanced meals three times a day, abstain from refined carbohydrates, and be careful when drinking - it does impair your food choice judgement, if nothing else. If you have a slip, like an unplanned ice cream, do not turn it into a binge or compensate it with under-eating, over-exercising or purging. Let it go. Do not watch others and compare or judge. Release it. Connect. Do not go on that holiday if all you will be doing is presenting a picture of yourself to others at the expense of your real self. There's nothing worse than feeling intrinsically different and lonely in a crowd. Go instead to somewhere where you can see mountains, sky, sun and a blue, wide horizon; and feel it all - heat, coolness, salt, sadness, fear and joy. Be somewhere where you can afford to be conscious about your emotions, and with somebody with whom it is OK to feel whatever you feel. Do not use food to self-medicate. Do something that stimulates your mind, challenges your body, and nourishes your soul; learn and see something new - not just a reflection of yourself in the mirror. Watch the sunset and listen to the wind, walk on the beach and pick up the stones. They have been there for thousands of years and have seen all the shapes, sizes, and designer labels on people's swimming trunks. Really!
