A new born child is OK then early experiences convince them they are not OK. The child?s decisions form preconscious life plans known as scripts. In adulthood, the scripts are played out via ego states, transactions between them and those of others, and psychological games.

The client and therapist work to identify and understand the client?s ego states, transactions, games and scripts. Emphasis is placed on awareness, spontaneity, intimacy, and competence in handling ego states. The therapist assists the client to use the adult ego state to deal with life.
