More Detail

20 Years Post-Registration Experience

Welcome. I am Sheila Lauchlan. I'm a registered psychotherapist - I assist individuals and couples with their psychological wellbeing. I hold private and public sector experience as a psychotherapist. My interest involves abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and relationship problems, and the specific challenges faced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting allows you to discover if you are comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and decide if therapy may assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment session in Cobham.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It explores your thoughts, emotions and significant events in your life. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover suitable methods of coping.

Systemic Therapy

Systemic therapy concentrates on the organisation of interactions between you and people. It addresses the interactions which maintain the interpersonal problems you encounter. Systemic therapy intends to help you improve how you communicate with others.

Thoughts on Mental Health

It's important that this problem is acknowledged and that people are supported to deal with it. It can have a major impact on people's lives. Women who have been through this sort of thing only have to think of the birth and they are back there, reliving it. Relationships are affected, but more than that, the woman's partner may also be suffering from PTSD as a result of witnessing their loved one in an extreme and painful situation.
