Welcome. I am Richard Backes. I'm a registered psychodynamic psychotherapist and a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals with their emotional wellbeing. I have private sector experience as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and a counsellor and psychotherapist.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment session helps you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and assess if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment session in Southwark, London, West End, London or Brixton, London.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which matter concerning your childhood and/or adult life you discuss. The objective of counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and find a solution which is appropriate for you.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious meaning of the issues you experience. It facilitates you in becoming conscious of aspects of your inner dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to enhance your self-understanding to give you options.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic therapy for anorexia nervosa, depression and substance dependence.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It considers your ideas, emotions and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover appropriate methods of coping.
