More Detail

Over 3 Years Post-Registration Experience

Hi. I'm Peter Johnstone. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their emotional wellbeing. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus involves depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and stress, as well as the particular obstacles encountered by men and women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment session allows you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an introductory assessment meeting in Weston-super-Mare or Wedmore.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts influence your feelings and behaviour. It identifies and addresses unhelpful ideas which maintain the problems you experience. The aim of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and substance dependence.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine what matter concerning your childhood and/or adult life you discuss. An objective of counselling is to help you to talk about a difficulty and discover a solution that is appropriate for you.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It considers your thoughts, feelings and relevant moments in your life. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover suitable methods of coping.
