More Detail

Over 15 Years Post-Chartership Experience

Hello. I am Mariette Bothma. I'm a chartered and registered clinical psychologist and an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their emotional health. I have private sector experience as a clinical psychologist and a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist. My interest includes depression, self esteem and stress, and the specific challenges encountered by men and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment session helps you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an introductory assessment session in St Albans.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT concentrates on how your thoughts affect your feelings and actions. It recognises and challenges negative thoughts that perpetuate the issues you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates cognitive behavioural therapy for depression and panic disorder.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy centres on the unconscious meaning of the issues you experience. It facilitates you in being conscious of parts of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy aims to enhance your self-understanding to give you choices.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic therapy for depression.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your mind, emotions and actions. It offers you psychological interventions and mental wellbeing support. The objective of psychological therapies is to help you ease symptoms.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you confront. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant events in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or discover suitable methods of managing.

Systemic Therapy

Systemic therapy focuses on the organisation of interactions between you and others. It identifies the interactions which maintain the interpersonal problems you encounter. Systemic therapy intends to help you enhance how you interact with others.
