More Detail

Over 6 Years Post-Registration Experience

Hello. I'm Lynn Barnes. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their mental wellbeing. I hold private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My interest involves abuse, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as the specific obstacles encountered by business men and women.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment session enables you to see if you are comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an initial assessment appointment in Whitton, Twickenham.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine what matter concerning your childhood and/or adult life you explore. An objective of counselling is to enable you to talk about a problem and discover a solution that is appropriate for you.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy combines therapeutic approaches to suit your needs and the issues you encounter. It considers your subjective experience and options. An aim of integrative therapy is to help you develop your self-understanding.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It considers your thoughts, emotions and significant events in your life. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover appropriate methods of coping.

Thoughts on Mental Health

Mindfulness is increasingly used in counselling and psychotherapy to help clients become more curious about their body sensations, behaviour, thoughts and feelings. However, psychotherapy and counselling are also relationship-based processes, so incorporating the concept of 'embedded relational mindfulness' is important. Unlike in traditional mindfulness, where only the client is aware of their internal processes, embedded relational mindfulness helps the client and therapist to become aware of the client's internal processes. This approach helps the client to gain awareness of the present moment without judgement, and sharing their thoughts, feelings, and body sensations with the therapist also helps create a high emotional connection.
