Clinical Experience

Hello. My name is Laurie MacDonald. I am a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist - Contemporary Psychoanalyst and a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I help people to address the causes of problems, reduce symptoms, and live more fully. My private Therapy consulting room is in Uckfield.

I have been a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist since April 1993 and a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist since April 1996, so I have more than 21 years and 3 months of post-registration experience of working with clients. I also gained experience of working with clients as part of my training. I work with Individuals, Couples, Families and Groups. I'm experienced in working with people from different backgrounds and cultures, and assisting with the particular challenges they encounter. I also have experience as a Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

What to Expect

After an initial appointment in Uckfield, there is no need to proceed if you decide not to. As Client and Therapist, we may make use of the supportive environment to explore the current or unresolved past concerns for which you are considering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Contemporary Psychoanalytic Therapy, Counselling, Psychoanalysis or Psychotherapy. I will discuss confidentiality with you and address any questions you may have. We can see how well we work together. You and I will then be able to decide if my mental health practice is appropriate for you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy concentrates on how your thoughts affect your feelings and behaviour. It recognises and challenges unhelpful thoughts that maintain the issues you encounter. The aim of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates CBT for Alcohol Dependence, Anorexia Nervosa, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Binge Eating Disorder (BED), Bipolar Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Bulimia Nervosa, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (ME), Depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Schizophrenia, Self Harm and Substance Dependence.

Contemporary Psychoanalytic Therapy

Contemporary Psychoanalytic Therapy focuses on your unconscious and your specific cultural experience. It facilitates your awareness of elements of your unconscious and your context. An objective of Contemporary Psychoanalytic Therapy is for you to obtain knowledge and act on it if you wish to.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what matter concerning your early years or adult life you discuss. The aim of Counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and find a solution which is appropriate for you.

Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis concentrates on you, and your unconscious. It assists you in elucidating the unconscious sources and meaning of symptoms. Psychoanalysis attempts to help you procure deep insight and examine the options it offers.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you face. It considers your ideas, feelings and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or find suitable methods of managing.
