More Detail

24 Years Post-Registration Experience

Hello. I am Laurie. I'm an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their psychological wellbeing. I have private and public sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus includes relationship problems, as well as the particular difficulties encountered by transgender people.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment session allows you to see if you feel comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an initial assessment appointment in Uckfield.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts affect your feelings and behaviour. It recognises and challenges unhelpful thoughts that maintain the issues you encounter. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (ME), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, self harm and substance dependence.

Contemporary Psychoanalytic Therapy

Contemporary psychoanalytic therapy focuses on your unconscious and your specific cultural experience. It facilitates your awareness of elements of your unconscious and your context. An objective of contemporary psychoanalytic therapy is for you to obtain knowledge and act on it if you wish to.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You determine what matter concerning your early years or adult life you discuss. The aim of counselling is to help you to talk about a problem and find a solution which is appropriate for you.

Psychoanalysis concentrates on you, and your unconscious. It assists you in elucidating the unconscious sources and meaning of symptoms. Psychoanalysis attempts to help you procure deep insight and examine the options it offers.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you face. It considers your ideas, feelings and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or find suitable methods of managing.
