Welcome. I am Julie Hughes. I'm an accredited and registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their emotional wellbeing. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My interest includes depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and stress, as well as the specific issues encountered by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

An initial assessment session enables you to see if you feel comfortable with me, share what troubles you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in York.

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which matter regarding your childhood or adulthood you discuss. An objective of counselling is to help you to speak about a problem and discover a solution that is appropriate for you.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends counselling for depression.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you obtaining insight into the difficulties you face. It explores your thoughts, feelings and relevant moments in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you change or find appropriate ways of managing.
