More Detail

Over 7 Years Post-Chartership Experience

Hello. I am Joao Botas. I'm a chartered and registered clinical psychologist - I support individuals, couples and families with their emotional wellbeing. I hold private and public sector experience as a clinical psychologist. My focus involves depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and relationship problems, as well as the specific obstacles faced by men, transgender people and women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment session helps you to discover if you are comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, understand confidentiality, and assess if therapy may help you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment appointment in Brixton, London, West End, London or Belgravia, London.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy concentrates on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your feelings and behaviour. It recognises and challenges unhelpful thoughts which maintain the issues you encounter. The objective of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and feelings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (ME), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, self harm and substance dependence.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing guides your eye movements to affect how your brain processes data. The technique attempts to reprocess your locked traumatic recollections. The aim of EMDR is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy centres on the unconscious meaning of the problems you encounter. It facilitates you in being conscious of aspects of your inner dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to increase your self-understanding to give you options.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic therapy for anorexia nervosa, depression, self harm and substance dependence.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, emotions and actions. It offers you psychological treatments and mental health support. An objective of psychological therapy is to help you alleviate symptoms.
