More Detail

Over 7 Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Welcome. I am Gill Harvey. I'm an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist - I support individuals and couples with their psychological health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting allows you to see if you are comfortable with me, discuss what troubles you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and assess if therapy may assist you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange a preliminary assessment meeting in Thame.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your emotions and actions. It recognises and addresses negative thoughts which perpetuate the issues you experience. The objective of cognitive behavioural therapy is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates cognitive behavioural therapy for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (ME), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which issue regarding your childhood or adult life you discuss. The objective of counselling is to help you to speak about a difficulty and discover a solution that is right for you.

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the difficulties you confront. It explores your thoughts, emotions and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you develop or find appropriate methods of coping.
