More Detail

Over 22 Years Post-Chartership Experience

Hi. I'm Robert Johnston. I'm a chartered and registered clinical psychologist - I support individuals and couples with their psychological health. I have private sector experience as a clinical psychologist.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting helps you to see if you feel comfortable with me, share what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an initial assessment session in Heath, Cardiff.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts influence your feelings and behaviour. It recognises and addresses unhelpful ideas that perpetuate the issues you experience. The aim of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests CBT for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, bulimia nervosa, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and substance dependence.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing guides your eye motions to affect how your mind processes information. The procedure attempts to reprocess your locked traumatic recollections. The aim of EMDR is to desensitise your painful memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends eye movement desensitisation reprocessing for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Interpersonal Therapy

Interpersonal therapy focuses on the interpersonal concerns you experience. It facilitates you in comprehending issues differently. An aim of interpersonal therapy is to help you implement helpful changes in how you relate.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates interpersonal therapy for anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bulimia nervosa and depression.

Psychology is interested in you and your mind, emotions and actions. It offers you psychological treatments and mental health support. An objective of psychological therapies is to help you ease symptoms.
