More Detail

Over 5 Years Post-Accreditation Experience

Hi. I'm Rebecca Spelman. I'm an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist and a registered counselling psychologist - I help individuals and couples with their emotional wellbeing. I have private sector experience as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist and a counselling psychologist.

What to Expect

An introductory assessment meeting allows you to discover if you are comfortable with me, discuss what worries you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and assess if therapy could benefit you. Please use a contact option on the right to arrange an introductory assessment appointment in Clerkenwell, London, Golders Green, London, Victoria, London, North Marylebone, London or Bank, London.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) influence your feelings and actions. It identifies and challenges negative thoughts which perpetuate the issues you encounter. The aim of CBT is for you to experience healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends CBT for alcohol dependence, anorexia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), bipolar disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), bulimia nervosa, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (ME), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self harm and substance dependence.

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You determine what matter regarding your early years and/or adulthood you explore. The objective of counselling is to help you to talk about a difficulty and find a solution which is right for you.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT considers your understanding of your ideas and emotions. It facilitates your discovery of useful reactions to your life. Dialectical behaviour therapy hopes to help you enhance and maintain your coping abilities.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests dialectical behaviour therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR directs your eye motions to stimulate how your brain processes information. The technique attempts to reprocess your locked distressing recollections. The objective of EMDR is to desensitise your painful memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy centres on the unconscious causes of the problems you experience. It facilitates you in becoming aware of aspects of your inner dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to increase your self-understanding to give you options.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates psychodynamic therapy for anorexia nervosa, depression, self harm and substance dependence.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your mind, feelings and behaviour. It offers you psychological treatments and mental health support. The objective of psychological therapy is to help you alleviate symptoms.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you confront. It considers your ideas, feelings and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy aims to help you change or discover suitable ways of managing.
