More Detail

Over 10 Years Post-Chartership Experience

Welcome. I am Maggie. I'm a chartered and registered counselling psychologist - I assist individuals and couples with their emotional wellbeing. I have private and public sector experience as a counselling psychologist. My interest includes relationship problems, as well as the specific issues experienced by women.

What to Expect

A preliminary assessment meeting helps you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, share what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy could help you. Please use a contact option on the right to book an initial assessment meeting in Middlesbrough.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on how your thoughts (cognitions) affect your emotions and behaviour. It recognises and challenges unhelpful ideas that maintain the issues you encounter. The objective of CBT is for you to have healthier thoughts and emotions.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates CBT for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (ME), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you, and assisting you. You decide which matter regarding your early years and/or adulthood you discuss. The aim of counselling is to enable you to speak about a problem and discover a solution that is right for you.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing directs your eye movements to affect how your mind processes information. The procedure attempts to reprocess your locked traumatic recollections. The objective of eye movement desensitisation reprocessing is to desensitise your upsetting memories.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) suggests EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy combines therapies to suit your needs and the issues you encounter. It considers your subjective experiences and choices. An aim of integrative therapy is to help you advance your self-awareness.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious meaning of the issues you encounter. It facilitates you in becoming aware of parts of your internal dynamics. Psychodynamic therapy seeks to enhance your self-comprehension to give you options.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic therapy for depression.

Psychology

Psychology is interested in you and your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It offers you psychological treatments and mental wellbeing support. An intention of psychological therapy is to help you ease symptoms.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you face. It explores your thoughts, emotions and significant moments in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or find appropriate ways of coping.

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)

Solution focused therapy focuses on finding answers to the problems you encounter. It examines what assists you, and what steps you could take to effect change. The purpose of SFT is to help you recognise and utilise your own strengths.
